Event Description: Greenlight Bookstore and The Atlantic are proud to announce that award-winning journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates, national correspondent at The Atlantic and author of #1 New York Times bestseller Between the World and Me, will appear at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn for one night only to present his newest book, We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy. Part memoir and part polemic, We Were Eight Years in Power powerfully examines the threads between the unprecedented election of Barack Obama and the vicious backlash that fueled the election of Donald Trump, through Coates' intimate and revealing perspective — the point of view of a young writer who begins his journey in an unemployment office in Harlem and ends it in the Oval Office, interviewing the President of the United States. Coates returns to the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, which he once called home, to discuss his work and perspectives with The Atlantic’s editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg. About Ta-Nehisi Coates: Ta-Nehisi Coates is a national correspondent for The Atlantic and the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Between the World and Me, a finalist for the National Book Award. A MacArthur “Genius Grant” fellow, Coates has received the National Magazine Award, the Hillman Prize for Opinion and Analysis Journalism, and the George Polk Award for his Atlantic cover story “The Case for Reparations.” He lives in New York with his wife and son. About Jeffrey Goldberg: Jeffrey Goldberg is editor in chief of The Atlantic, a position he was appointed to in October 2016. An award-winning journalist, his work focuses on the Middle East and North Africa, and he has conducted interviews with high-profile figures and heads of state including Barack Obama, David Cameron, Benjamin Netanyahu, John Kerry, Manuel Valls, and King Abdullah II of Jordan. Goldberg’s much-discussed 2016 Atlantic cover story, “The Obama Doctrine,” discussed President Obama’s perspective about the changing role of the United States in the Middle East. He was previously a national correspondent for the The Atlantic and wrote for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and New York magazine.
